The Story of Prophet Yunus (Jonah)
Prophet Yunus (Jonah) was sent to a people who rejected him. He left them in frustration before Allah permitted—and was swallowed by a great fish.
Leaving Without Permission Yunus called his people to Allah, but they refused. He left in anger, boarding a ship. When a storm arose, the crew cast lots to determine who was responsible. The lot fell on Yunus, and he was thrown into the sea.
In the Belly of the Fish A great fish swallowed Yunus. In the darkness of its belly, he cried out: "There is no deity except You; exalted are You. Indeed, I have been of the wrongdoers." (Surah Al-Anbiya 21:87) — This sincere repentance became a model supplication for all believers.
Deliverance Allah answered his prayer. The fish cast him out onto the shore, and Yunus was restored. He returned to his people—and found they had repented and believed in his absence. Allah had accepted their repentance.
The Lesson "And had he not been of those who exalt Allah, he would have remained inside its belly until the Day they are resurrected." (37:143-144) — Dhikr and repentance save us in our darkest moments. Never despair of Allah's mercy.
