The Story of Musa and Khidr
In Surah Al-Kahf, Musa sets out to find a servant of Allah who had been given special knowledge. The encounter teaches that Allah's wisdom often lies beyond surface understanding.
The Journey Musa was told he was the most knowledgeable of people. He said only Allah knows. Then he was directed to meet a servant at the junction of the two seas—Khidr—who had knowledge Musa did not have.
The Condition Khidr agreed to let Musa accompany him on condition: "You will not be able to have patience with me. And how can you have patience about what you have no knowledge?" (18:67-68) Musa promised not to question. They set out.
The Three Incidents First, Khidr damaged a boat. Musa objected. Khidr reminded him of his promise. Second, Khidr killed a young boy. Musa objected again. Khidr reminded him. Third, Khidr repaired a wall in a town that refused them hospitality. Musa objected. Khidr said their companionship must end—but he would explain.
The Explanations The boat belonged to poor people; a king was seizing boats, so damaging it saved it. The boy would have grown to oppress his parents; Allah willed a righteous son instead. The wall hid treasure for two orphan boys; repairing it preserved it until they grew. Behind each act was divine wisdom.
The Lesson "That is the interpretation of that about which you could not have patience." (18:82) — We see only fragments. Allah sees the whole. Trust His wisdom even when we cannot understand.
