The Story of Prophet Lut (Lot)
Prophet Lut was sent to a people who committed a sin no nation had committed before—sodomy. He called them to righteousness, but they persisted in their evil.
Lut's Call Lut called his people to fear Allah and to abandon their shameful practices. He said: "Do you approach males among the worlds and leave what your Lord has created for you as your mates? But you are a people transgressing." (26:165-166)
Their Response The people threatened Lut and demanded he expel the believers. They had no fear of Allah's punishment. Lut prayed: "My Lord, save me and my family from [the consequence of] what they do." (26:169)
The Angels Allah sent angels to Lut—disguised as handsome youths. The people rushed to Lut's house to assault them. Lut offered his daughters instead, but they refused. The angels revealed themselves and struck the people with blindness.
The Destruction At dawn, a punishment came: stones of baked clay rained down. The entire region was overturned. Lut and his believing family were saved—except his wife, who had sided with the disbelievers.
The Lesson "And indeed, you approach men with desire instead of women. Rather, you are a transgressing people." (7:81) — Moral corruption brings divine punishment. Lut's story is a warning to all societies that normalize grave sin.
