The Story of Dawud (David) and Sulaiman (Solomon)
Prophets Dawud (David) and Sulaiman (Solomon) were both kings and prophets. Their stories in the Quran highlight wisdom, justice, and gratitude.
Dawud and Goliath When the army of Talut (Saul) faced Jalut (Goliath), young Dawud volunteered to fight. With a sling and stones, he defeated the giant—by Allah's permission. He was given prophethood and kingship. The Quran praises his devotion: "Indeed, We made the mountains declare Our glory with him, and the birds as well." (38:19)
Sulaiman's Kingdom Sulaiman inherited prophethood and an immense kingdom. Allah gave him authority over the wind, the jinn, and the ability to understand the speech of birds and ants. He was grateful: "My Lord, enable me to be grateful for Your favor which You have bestowed upon me." (27:19)
The Queen of Sheba When Sulaiman learned of Bilqis, the Queen of Sheba, he sent her a letter inviting her to submit to Allah. She came with gifts, but Sulaiman wanted only her faith. When she saw his kingdom and the hoopoe's report, she said: "My Lord, indeed I have wronged myself, and I submit with Sulaiman to Allah." (27:44)
The Lesson Both prophets combined power with humility. They used their blessings to call others to Allah and never forgot to be grateful.
