The Story of Prophet Ayyub (Job)

Prophet Ayyub (Job) is the exemplar of patience in the Quran. He was tested with severe loss—wealth, health, and family—yet he remained grateful to Allah.

The Test Ayyub was a wealthy, righteous man with a large family. Allah permitted Satan to test him. Ayyub lost his wealth, his children died, and he was afflicted with a severe illness. His body was covered with sores. Yet he never complained or questioned Allah's wisdom.

His Wife's Support Ayyub's wife remained with him. At one moment of weakness, she suggested he pray for relief. Ayyub gently reminded her that they had enjoyed years of ease—could they not endure hardship for Allah? He then prayed: "Indeed, adversity has touched me, and You are the most merciful of the merciful." (21:83)

Restoration Allah answered his prayer. He was healed and his family and wealth were restored—even more than before. Ayyub was commanded to strike the ground with his foot, and a spring gushed forth for him to bathe and drink.

The Lesson "Indeed, We found him patient, an excellent servant. Indeed, he was one repeatedly turning back [to Allah]." (38:44) — Patience and constant return to Allah transform trial into triumph.
