Forgiveness in the Quran

The Quran is replete with verses about Allah's forgiveness and the importance of forgiving others. It offers hope to every repentant soul.

Allah is Oft-Forgiving "Say, O My servants who have transgressed against themselves [by sinning], do not despair of the mercy of Allah. Indeed, Allah forgives all sins. Indeed, it is He who is the Forgiving, the Merciful." (Surah Az-Zumar 39:53) — No sin is too great for Allah's mercy when we turn to Him sincerely.

Forgive Others "And let them pardon and overlook. Would you not like that Allah should forgive you?" (Surah An-Nur 24:22) — Forgiving others is not just a virtue; it is a means to receive Allah's forgiveness. Holding grudges harms the soul.

The Best of the Sinners The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "By the One in Whose Hand is my soul, if you did not sin, Allah would replace you with people who would sin and then seek forgiveness, and Allah would forgive them." Repentance elevates us; it does not diminish us.

Seeking Forgiveness "Ask forgiveness of your Lord. Indeed, He is ever a Perpetual Forgiver." (Surah Nuh 71:10) — The prophets constantly sought forgiveness. We should do the same—through istighfar (seeking forgiveness) and turning back to Allah.

Allah's mercy encompasses all things. Never lose hope in His forgiveness.
