Dua When Leaving and Entering Home

The Prophet (peace be upon him) taught duas for when leaving and entering the home. These invoke Allah's protection and blessings for the household.

When Leaving Home

“بِسْمِ اللَّهِ تَوَكَّلْتُ عَلَى اللَّهِ وَلَا حَوْلَ وَلَا قُوَّةَ إِلَّا بِاللَّهِ”

"In the name of Allah, I place my trust in Allah, and there is no power or strength except with Allah." The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "When a man says this, it is said to him: 'You are guided, sufficed, and protected.' The devils move away from him."

When Entering Home

“بِسْمِ اللَّهِ وَلَجْنَا وَبِسْمِ اللَّهِ خَرَجْنَا وَعَلَى اللَّهِ رَبِّنَا تَوَكَّلْنَا”

"In the name of Allah we enter, and in the name of Allah we leave, and upon our Lord we rely." Then greet the household with Salam.

Greeting the Empty House When entering an empty house, say:

“السَّلَامُ عَلَيْنَا وَعَلَى عِبَادِ اللَّهِ الصَّالِحِينَ”

"Peace be upon us and upon the righteous servants of Allah." This includes the angels present in the house.

Protection and Barakah These duas place the home and the one leaving under Allah's care. They are short but powerful—a reminder that every step we take is with Allah's permission and protection.
