The 99 Names of Allah (Asma ul Husna)

The 99 Names of Allah, known as Asma ul Husna (الأسماء الحسنى), are the beautiful names and attributes by which Allah describes Himself in the Quran and through which Muslims know and worship Him. They are a gateway to understanding Allah's perfection and a means of drawing closer to Him through dhikr and dua.

Quranic Foundation

وَلِلَّهِ الْأَسْمَاءُ الْحُسْنَىٰ فَادْعُوهُ بِهَا

"And to Allah belong the best names, so invoke Him by them." (Surah Al-A'raf 7:180)

اللَّهُ لَا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ ۖ لَهُ الْأَسْمَاءُ الْحُسْنَىٰ

"Allah—there is no deity except Him. To Him belong the best names." (Surah Ta-Ha 20:8)

Virtue of Memorizing Them The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "Allah has ninety-nine names—one hundred minus one. Whoever memorizes them and acts upon them will enter Paradise." Memorizing and reflecting on these names deepens faith and brings the heart closer to Allah.

How to Use the Names Call upon Allah by His names in supplication. For example: "Ya Rahman, Ya Raheem" (O Most Merciful, O Most Gracious), "Ya Ghafoor" (O All-Forgiving), "Ya Razzaq" (O Provider). Each name connects you to a specific attribute of Allah's mercy, power, or perfection.
